HAZRAT MUHAMMAD HAMIDUR RAHMAN: LIFE AND WORKS
Muhammad Hamidur Rahman is one of the leading Islamic personalities of the country. He delivers Islamic lectures in different forums both in bangla and English, serving solely to motivate people towards sunnah of the Prpphet (pbuh).
Born in Munshigonj in 09 December 1938, he passed Matriculation [SSC] from Islamiah High School in 1955 and attained 21st position [he was not within 20 only for one mark!]. He passed Intermediate [HSC] from Dhaka College in 1957 and secured 13th position in Dhaka Board. In 1961, he graduated in Electrical Engineering from Ahsanullah Engineering College and attained 7th position. He served in Siddhirgonj Power Station for 2 years, in English Electric Company for about 6 years and then in BUET as Assistant Professor for about 26 years. Interestingly he joined BUET as Assistant Professor in 1969 and retired himself as Assistant Professor in 1995. Long 26 years he had no promotion. He preferred giving time to acquire religious knowledge instead of having degrees on worldly education. After retirement from BUET, he joined in IUT in the same profession. Subsequently after retirement from IUT in 2001 he is now serving the same university as a part time teacher. Apart from this Professor Muhammad Hamidur ahman has another identity for which he is well known today. He is a distinguished Islamic personality. Though he didn't go to any Madrasha or Islamic Universitiy, yet he is regarded as an Alim [Islamic Scholars] by the Ulamas [Learned Islamic Personalities]. His lectures attract people specially those who are born and brought up in secular education and profession to lead their lives in accordance with the Sunnah of the Prophet [pbuh].
Hazrat Muhammad Hamidur Rahman was a Khadem [attendant] of Maulana Muhammadullah Hafizzi Huzur (rahmatullahi) for long 13 years and this made him so different from ordinary English learned people in respect of religious feelings and Ilm. Allah subhanu wataala has ordered us to be with the the people who are really truthful in their words and works to attain Taqwa. Hamidur Rahman is one the burning example of this kind and became a rarely found Allahwala in the field of Taqwa. He became "baiat" [allegiance] to Hafizzi Huzur in the year 1974 and was declared as his Khalifa [nominee] in 1979. Hafizzi huzur (rahmatullahi alihi) died in 1987. Then he became baiat to Maulana Abrarul Haq (rahmatullahi alihi) in 1989 at Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh, India who was the only Khalifa of Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanwi (rahmatullahi alihi) alive at that time. Muhammad Hamidur Rahman became Khalifa of Maulana Abrarul Haq (rahmatullahi alihi) in 1990. After expiry of Maulana Abrarul Haq (rahmatullahi alihi) in 2005, Hazrat Muhammad Hamidur Rahman put himself under Mufti Abdur Rahman (dammat barakatuhum), Chairman of Islamic Research Centre at Bashundara, Dhaka who is also a khalifa of Maulana Abrarul Haq (rahmatullahi alihi).
So traditionally like the scholars of Ulamas of Deobond, recognizing the importance of Tasawwuf, he traversed the path under the guidance of Sheikh Maulana Muhammadullah Hafizzi Huzur and Maulana Abrarul Haq both khulafa of Hakeemul Ummat Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanvi (rahmatullahi alihi ajmaeen) & is authorized by both of his mentors in the Silsila e Ashrafia, Chistiyyah, Naqshbandiyah, Qadiriyah and Suharwardiyah. In addition to his busy schedule he himself is also a mentor to numerous spiritual aspirants all over the country.
He conducts weekly sessions of Islamic Dawah for the public interested in spiritual improvement in different places regularly such as on every Monday at his Uttara residence, on every Saturday at his Azimpur residence, on every first Friday of Lunar month in BUET central mosque and on every third Friday of Lunar month in Navy Officers' Colony in Chittagong etc.
